Yanmar commercializes maritime hydrogen fuel cell system

A maritime hydrogen fuel cell system has been successfully commercialized by Yanmar Power Technology (YPT). The company now plans to propose installation of the sustainable system onto passenger, work and cargo vessels carrying out operations in coastal areas where hydrogen refueling is normally accessible.

To support the decarbonization of the maritime sector and in line with the International Maritime Organization’s revised target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2050, YPT has participated in initiatives set out by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to establish safety guidelines for hydrogen fuel cell ships and to develop a roadmap for hydrogen utilization.

Further initiatives have also been conducted by YPT, including navigational tests of demonstration ships equipped with hydrogen fuel cells and high-pressure hydrogen refueling tests for vessels.
