From this summer, ship manufacturer Bavaria Yachts will equip its C38e, C42e and C46e models with electric or hybrid propulsion, powered by technology from EPTechnologies.

Propulsion for these new models will come via EPTechnologies’ saildrive connected to a powerful electric motor – delivering 25kW for the C38e and C42e, and 37kW for the C46e. At the heart of the system is the Multibox, which will manage everything from battery charging to system operation.

Standard battery capacity for the C38e and C42e is 18.2kWh (expandable with extra packs), enabling more than 50 nautical miles on electric power. The larger C46e comes equipped with two battery packs as standard. An optional generator turns the system into a full hybrid solution – offering up to 576 nautical miles of range on the C38e at 5.5kts.

“We have been searching for an alternative drive solution perfectly aligned with our DNA at Bavaria Yachts: sustainable, high-quality, modular and effortless for sailors to use,” said Norbert Leifeld, Bavaria Yachts COO. “With EPTechnologies, we’ve found just the partner we need to propel us – and our owners – into the future. Sailing has always been a sustainable pursuit. Now, we’re making it even more so.”

In related news, a project team including Team Tech-Out Racing, Molabo, Kaiser Bootsmanufaktur and Protenergies has launched a fully electric Formula 4 race boat that serves as a demonstrator for a newly developed electrification kit
