Marine engineering consultancy Glosten has launched a new all-electric 75-passenger ferry.

The vessel features a lightweight carbon fiber hull which boosts energy efficiency, requiring smaller batteries and reducing the need for large shoreside charging systems.

To improve operational flexibility, the battery compartment is positioned on the main deck, enabling the operator to install the battery type and capacity most suitable to their needs. This layout is also said to simplify access for inspections and maintenance and allow for a hydrodynamically superior hull form.

Glosten says the interior is designed for crew comfort and control, supporting a wide range of passenger needs, and providing excellent visibility, access to critical spaces and passenger management for a crew of just two.

It also features dual azimuthing thrusters, which offer precise manoeuvrability through joystick controls, according to the company. The composite build is said to resist corrosion and provide a 30+ year service life.
